| Leading Policy Change
Informed by a wealth of on-the-ground experience, PCDC leads policy initiatives that strengthen primary care in underserved communities. Primary care is not only the centerpiece of meaningful healthcare reform, but also contributes greatly to economic development in communities most in need.
What We Do
As leaders in New York State and throughout the country increasingly recognize the need for investment in primary care as a means to control healthcare costs, PCDC continues to strengthen its policy and advocacy efforts.
Advocating for change. PCDC co-founded the New York State Primary Care Coalition in partnership with five statewide primary care organizations. The Coalition's policy agenda includes:
- Increase reimbursement for primary care services
- Expand primary care infrastructure and workforce capacity
- Promote the Patient-Centered Medical Home
- Promote the adoption of health information technology
- Expand and improve insurance coverage
Publishing expert research. PCDC develops studies and policy briefs that address critical issues and recommendations to strengthen primary care. Our Resource Center includes a variety of topics, including reimbursement reform, sustainability, and financial distress.
Educating policymakers. PCDC educates policymakers on the importance of primary care at the local, state and federal levels through public testimony, open discussions, public forums, and events.
